The Kamakshi Amman shrine lies to the north of the main shrine. It probably dates to the 17th or 18th century, when this region was under the Wodeyars of Mysore, though it may not necessarily have been commissioned by them. The shrine is accessed by a single flight of stairs flanked by yalis and yali balustrades into a single bay mandapa. This is followed by an antarala or vestibule beyond which lies the inner sanctum with the deity. Cladding works and a host of other recent interventions have concealed most of the original interiors and hamper our reading of the space. One of the most fascinating aspects of the Kamakshi Amman shrine is the Girija Kalyana that is vividly carved out on the exterior walls of the temple. A tower built out of brick masonry and adorned with stucco figures, surmounts the inner sanctum
